At the beginning of the twentieth century two California oilmen, Lyman and Milton Stewart, looked out at the Oprah Winfrey’s of their day, men like Henry Emerson Fosdick and Walter Rauschenbusch, and were so burdened to do something about the onslaught of liberalism that they created a fund that generated the development of twelve booklets on the Bible that were distributed to every pastor, evangelist, theology professor, theological student, Sunday school superintendent and YMCA and YWCA director in the English speaking world. These booklets were entitled “The Fundamentals” and played a major role in arresting the downward spiral produced by liberal theology in America.
We need such a move of God as this in our day! We would never be so presumptuous to think that NothinsGonnaStopIt! is the answer to the drift away from the Bible in the modern age, but we do think that it could be a piece of the puzzle. Someone out there has to be telling the story all the way through from beginning to end. Up and coming preachers don’t often learn these skills in their schooling so we need partners that will join forces with us to get these materials written and available to the same groups of people that got those pamphlets before the first world war.
